Is the file uploaded?
No. pdf-lib processes everything in your browser.
Maximum file size?
Practically up to 100 MB. Beyond that browser memory becomes a concern.
Does it preserve form fields and bookmarks?
Yes, when merging. Splitting preserves page content but resets bookmarks.

Common Errors and Fixes
- Merged PDF won’t open. One source PDF was corrupt. Try opening each individually first.
- Pages out of order. Drag-reorder in the file list before clicking Merge.
- “Pages 5-10 missing” in split. Range syntax wrong — use commas, not spaces.

- Password-protected PDF won’t merge. Decrypt first — pdf-lib can’t process encrypted PDFs.
- File too big — browser hangs. 100 MB+ source. Pre-split using a desktop tool first.
- Form fields disappear after merge. pdf-lib preserves them, but signatures sometimes break.
- Bookmarks gone. Splitting resets the bookmark tree. Use a desktop PDF editor for bookmarks.
- Output PDF is huge. Original was image-heavy. Pass through Image Resizer first.
- Rotation wrong. Some PDFs have per-page rotation metadata. Pre-correct in source.

Make the cover page a separate PDF (or JPG → JPG to PDF) and drop it first.
What if a source PDF is password-protected on the print restriction?
pdf-lib respects print/copy restrictions. Remove restrictions before merging.
Can I sign the merged PDF?
Not in this tool. Use a separate eSign service.
Does it embed source PDF metadata?
Standard metadata only. Custom fields not preserved.
Will OCR work on the output?
If source was OCR’d, yes. We don’t add OCR.
Can I extract just the images from a PDF?
Not in this tool. Use a desktop PDF-to-image extractor.

What if Aadhaar XML zip is inside the PDF?
The tool merges/splits the PDF as a whole. Extract embedded files using a desktop tool.
