How to Make a Clean Transparent Signature PNG for Indian Government Portals
Every Indian govt exam portal asks for a signature image in a specific KB range and pixel size, usually with white or transparent background. This tool takes care of the entire conversion in seconds — from a messy phone photo of a signed paper to a crisp portal-ready PNG.
1. Best capture technique
- Use a plain white A4 paper.
- Sign with a black gel pen or sketch-pen, not pencil.
- Take the photo straight above (no tilt) in indirect daylight.
- Crop tightly to the signature before uploading (saves time).
2. The thresholding algorithm
The tool converts the photo to grayscale, then applies a brightness threshold. Pixels darker than the threshold become solid black; pixels lighter become transparent (or pure white). The threshold slider lets you tune for thick pens (low threshold) or thin pens (high threshold).

Is the signature stored anywhere?

8. Common Errors and Fixes
- Signature too thick after threshold. Increase threshold by 10–20.
- Signature too thin / broken. Decrease threshold by 10–20.
- Paper texture showing in output. Bump threshold higher to ignore paper grain.
- Portal rejects PNG. Switch output to White background (some portals don’t accept transparency).
- Edge feather artifact. Reduce feather to 0.
- Draw canvas not responding on mobile. Update browser. Old WebView builds struggle.
- Output too big in KB. Reduce pixel dimensions to portal exact spec.
- Output too small in KB (under min). Portals also have a minimum — increase dimensions or add noise.
- Customer signature partly cropped. Pre-crop tighter before upload.
- Blue ink looks black in output. Yes — threshold-binarisation converts to black/transparent only. Use external editor if colour signature needed.
- Thumb impression not crisp. Use threshold ~110 and feather 1.
- Output filename generic. Rename after download.
